Denise Morgan
Sr Vice President -
I joined the VFW Auxiliary under my father who served over 20 years in Army Military Intelligence, with assignments in both Korea and VietNam. He worked diligently to be reassigned from Panama when my mother was pregnant with me so that I would be born on American soil.
Upon graduation, my soon to be husband and myself were both commissioned at Northeast Louisiana University, with my father pinning my bars to officially commission me. I served 5 years, part in the Army Reserve and part in the Alabama National Guard while my former husband served 5 years in the Army between Fort Benning and Fort Hood. I have lived a military life trifecta- military dependent, military member, and military spouse. Since mom and dad were both from north Louisiana, we visited almost annually while I was growing up, lived here while dad was in Viet Nam, and moved back when he retired. I left when I married but moved back to north Louisiana in the mid 1990’s to be near family when I was on my own again.
I am mom to 4 now adult daughters and am a retired public school educator. I was fortunately able to caretake for my dad during the last years of his Alzheimer's journey. I now spend most of my time with grandchildren and volunteering in the community and have enjoyed meeting VFW and VFW Auxiliary members and participating in activities that give back to military members and families.
